Z-PAC Theatre presents a new production ‘Cosi’, a play that is funny, warm and wonderfully mad.
Inspired by playwright Louis Nowra’s own life, this heart-warming production follows young director, Lewis, as he attempts to direct Mozart’s opera ‘Così Fan Tutte’ at a local psychiatric hospital.
With a cast who can’t sing, act, or speak Italian; what could possibly go wrong?
Featuring an array of loveable patients including Roy the flamboyant and irritating driving force; Doug the mischievous pyromaniac; the volatile Cherry; the meticulous and insistent Ruth; Julie the sultry drug addict; Zac the ever-passionate musician; and the reclusive Henry.
Set in 1971 and with life in the big smoke of Melbourne becoming tougher by the day, recent university graduate, Lewis, is struggling to find work much to the be grudge of his lover, Lucy.
However, Lewis’ luck takes a turn as he lands a gig directing a play, and things are looking up.
Nevertheless, he encounters problems; the play is in Italian, it’s a Mozart opera, the cast are patients of a psychiatric asylum, and the theatre has burned down.
On top of it all Lucy is spending a suspicious amount of time with another man!
Set to the background of the political fallout from the Vietnam war, this comedy-drama is one of the greatest Australian plays ever produced and one you cannot miss it.
“It’s art, it’s mayhem, it’s a wonderful roller coaster of emotion all the way to opening night,” said director Jonathan Sharp.
Audiences be advised that this play does contain coarse language.
Cosi commences Friday 31st March and goes through to Sunday 16th April 2023, with evening shows on Fridays and Saturdays commencing at 7.30pm and Matinees on Sundays commencing at 2.00pm.
