Torbay secures $3.2m aged care fund boost
TORBAY Lifestyles and Care has received confirmation of their successful application of $3.2 million in funding under the Australian Government’s Residential-based Aged Care Services and Staff Accommodation Grant Opportunity.
This investment will support major capital improvements, ensuring the future sustainability of aged care services on the Fraser Coast.
Torbay was one of only five residential aged care facilities in Queensland to receive funding, and the only provider on the Fraser Coast.
The program saw 367 applications lodged nationwide, seeking more than $2.4 billion for a pool of $300 million.
Just 66 projects were funded across Australia, with Torbay’s successful outcome representing a significant win for the local community.
The funding will enable Torbay to modernise its infrastructure by revitalising a decommissioned unit, along with the renovation of another.
Together the redeveloped unit will result in 18 renovated single ensuite rooms, designed as two small, intimate households.
Each household will feature private entryways, garden spaces, domestic-style kitchens, and communal living and dining areas, supported by a shared back-of-house service zone.
The new design will enhance resident care, boost operational efficiency, and meet the increasing demand for high-acuity aged care services on the Fraser Coast by adding an additional eight beds to the existing home.
Importantly, the redevelopment aligns with the National Aged Care Design Principles and Guidelines (NACDPG) by creating a more home-like environment for residents while responding to the region’s ageing population.
Funding decisions for the grant were based on application merit as well as broader assessment, taking into account supply gaps, urgency of funding, financial and compliance indicators such as star ratings, and the level of expected community benefit relative to the grant amount.
Torbay’s selection attests to the organisation’s strong performance record and the critical need for additional residential beds in the Fraser Coast region.
Carrie Chappell, Chief Executive Officer of Torbay Lifestyles and Care, welcomed the announcement, saying:
“This grant is a major milestone for Torbay and the wider Fraser Coast community. It recognises our commitment to delivering quality aged care and services. This redevelopment will enhance the quality of life for residents and ensure our home remains modern, efficient, and equipped to meet future needs.”
