The Hervey Bay Airport has never been busier
DURING 2025, 239,758 passengers travelled through Hervey Bay Airport, marking the highest number of passengers recorded in the airport’s operational history.
The milestone reflects continued growth in regional aviation and highlights the Fraser Coast’s increasing appeal as both a tourism destination and a travel hub.
The 2025 passenger figure represents a significant rise compared to the 203,490 passengers recorded in the 2024 calendar year, equating to an increase of close to 18 per cent.
The growth signals strong demand for air travel to and from the region, supported by expanding tourism markets and improved connectivity.
Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour said he was excited about the future opportunities for aviation.
“With flights to Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, K’Gari and Lady Elliot Island, the airport is connecting people with amazing destinations: including of course the Fraser Coast.”
The current range of destinations continues to strengthen the region’s accessibility for both visitors and residents. Cr Seymour said ongoing marketing efforts were also playing a key role in the airport’s success.
“We have been marketing our region as a wonderful tourism destination, and this shows in the numbers” he said.
Visitor demand has remained strong, with the Fraser Coast benefiting from its natural attractions, island destinations and relaxed coastal lifestyle.
“These record numbers show what a great destination the Fraser Coast is, and why it would make a great connection to other destinations, such as Adelaide” Cr Seymour said.
The council believes continued growth may open the door for additional routes in the future.
Currently QANTAS operates direct flights between Brisbane and Hervey Bay, while Jetstar offers direct services to Sydney and Melbourne.
However, Cr Seymour believes there is further potential to expand services. “Over the years we have worked with the airlines on the routes to get better times and more destinations, such as Melbourne, and we will continue to do this” he said.
The record-breaking year positions Hervey Bay Airport strongly for future growth and expanded connectivity.
