COMMUNITY, compassion and conversation will take centre stage later this month as the Rotary Club of Hervey Bay Sunrise turns fashion into a force for change.

The club’s upcoming Ladies Preloved Clothing Gala is more than a night out — it is a deliberate effort to shine a light on Domestic and Family Violence and to fund local initiatives that aim to prevent it.

The gala will be held at the Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre on Friday, February 20, bringing together donated fashion, entertainment and a strong social purpose.

Chief organiser and longtime Hervey Bay clothing store owner Gay Ignatenko says the evening has been designed to be enjoyable while still carrying an important message.

The clothing has been sourced from generous donors across Hervey Bay and Maryborough, reinforcing the idea that small individual contributions can collectively make a meaningful impact.

“Everyone has a dress or a top that they have worn once, or twice, and now they sit in the cupboard.”

“The gala allows people to hand on those clothes and help raise funds for a great cause - combating Domestic and Family Violence.”

Affordability has also been a priority, ensuring the event is accessible to as many people as possible. “Prices for the clothes has been kept as a low as possible ranging from $5 for a top to $25 for a silk dress.”

Tickets for the event are priced at $25 and are available online or via the Rotary Club of Hervey Bay Sunrise Facebook page.

Additional clothing donations can be dropped off at Banana Bender and Valentino’s Emporium on the Torquay Esplanade.

Rotary Club of Hervey Bay Sunrise President Kevin Corcoran said the initiative reflects Rotary’s broader commitment to cultural change.

“Violence against women starts with disrespectful behaviour. Our focus is on stopping this at the start,” he said.

The program’s focus includes raising awareness, educating young people about respectful relationships, and encouraging reporting — all aimed at building a safer, more respectful community for the Fraser Coast.
