THE MINISTER for Health, Mental Health, and Ambulance Services Shannon Fentiman is thrilled to announce that 69 new nurses will embark on the next exciting chapter of their careers at Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service (WBHHS) this month as part of the initial 2024 graduate intake.
The new nurses, consisting of graduates from both local universities and institutions further afield, will spend the next 12 months working across various clinical areas across the Wide Bay and rural facilities.
Of the 69 nurses, 19 of these will be based in Hervey Bay.
The WBHHS will also welcome a second intake of graduates in mid-2024.
Together with the 28 new medical interns who recently finished their orientations week, these graduate nurses are a much-welcomed boost to the WBHHS workforce.
The Miles Government is committed to bolstering Queensland Health’s workforce, investing $40.6 million in the 2023-24 budget to attract and employ more staff.
Minister for Health, Mental Health, and Ambulance Services Shannon Fentiman said, “I’m so excited for the Fraser Coast’s 69 new nurse grads who are embarking on a year of learning with incredible mentors across the Wide Bay.
“Our frontline workers do a wonderful job providing world-class healthcare to our community and I know these new nurses are a much-welcome boost to the workforce.
“Their passion and dedication towards meeting the health needs of their communities is inspiring and I wish them all the best for the year ahead,” he said.
Member for Hervey Bay Adrian Tantari said “I am proud to be part of a government that is committed to ensuring we have a strong and highly skilled health workforce here in Hervey Bay.
“Year after year, the WBHHS receives interest from many talented graduates wishing to start their careers with Queensland Health in the Wide Bay.
“It’s great to see these nurse graduates join the WBHHS workforce so our team can continue delivering the right care, in the right place, at the right time to Hervey Bay patients for years to come”.
