Nominate your favourite businesses and business people for the People’s Choice Awards

WHEN we launched the Fraser Coast Business and Tourism People’s Choice Awards a decade ago through my old newspaper, the Hervey Bay Independent, we had no idea how big it would become.

In a time when social media was really in its infancy, the ambitious project reached more than 90,000 people, with over 1,200 comments, 2,000 likes and 400 shares.

What was very obvious from the outset was the desire for local people to put their hands up and say, ‘look at this business or look at this person, they are doing amazing work’.

Customers don’t go to award nights, and judging panels simply cannot be across every great business. That’s why the People’s Choice Awards are so unique.

Last time around, 2,600 votes were cast via Facebook, 600 people voted via SMS, 490 voted via email, and 450 sent in hard copy voting forms.

Yowsers .. we think you really loved it!

To celebrate that incredible response, we wanted to ensure a whole new group of residents could recognise their favourite businesses and business people.

The 2023 Fraser Coast Business and Tourism People’s Choice Awards is back for its 10th Anniversary.

On pages 20 and 21 of this issue, you can find all of the details about the many ways to nominate your local business champions.

There is no voting just yet – you just need to nominate.

There are a host of new awards across the sixteen categories, both for individuals and organisations.

You can also use the QR code here in the Publisher’s Point to go directly to the Fraser Coast Business and Tourism People’s Choice Awards Facebook page and post your nomination.

If you are unsure which award your favourite business or businessperson should be in, don’t let that worry you. Just post their name and the business and will place them into the most applicable category.
