Night works to improve Main Street in Urraween

FRASER Coast residents and drivers are being advised that night works will begin to fix and strengthen a section of Main Street in Urraween between Urraween Road and Richard Charles Drive.

Council Roads and Transport spokesperson Denis Chapman said the
$2.64 million project would make the busy road safer and smoother for everyone who uses it.

“Main Street is one of Hervey Bay’s busiest roads and the surface has worn over time,” he said.

“These works will give it a new, stronger surface that will last for many years.”

“Doing the work at night will provide a safer working environment, help finish
the job faster, reduce traffic delays and save around $300,000 in costs.”

The project has received $1.28 million in funding from the Australian Government’s Roads to Recovery program, with the rest funded by Council.

Work started in early November and will take about four weeks to finish, weather depending.

The upgrade is part of Council’s broader commitment to maintaining high-quality road networks across the Fraser Coast, improving safety and supporting local economic growth.

Once completed, the renewed section of Main Street will enhance travel efficiency for residents, businesses, and visitors, particularly those accessing key facilities such as Stockland Hervey Bay and the hospital precinct.

Crews will work Sunday to Thursday nights from 6pm to 5am, and Main Street will reopen by 6am each day.

During construction hours, traffic will be reduced to one lane, with detours in place via Urraween Road, Nissen Street and Boat Harbour Drive.

Cr Chapman said Council would work closely with the contractor to keep disruptions to a minimum.

“Nearby residents and businesses might notice some noise or dust while work is underway,” he said.

“We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding while these important upgrades are completed.”

New line marking will also be completed at the end of the project, resulting in one northbound lane and two southbound lanes – giving motorists an extra travel lane when heading south.
