HERVEY Bay took centre stage in Queensland’s women’s rugby league calendar with a Gala Dinner followed by a thrilling BMD Premiership clash between the Wynnum Manly Seagulls and Central Queensland Capras.
Fraser Coast Deputy Mayor Sara Diana Faraj said Council was proud to sponsor such a high-profile event that not only celebrated elite women’s sport but also provided a welcome boost to local tourism.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to see top-tier women’s rugby league in our own backyard,” Cr Faraj said.
“It’s not just a thrilling sporting event, it’s a celebration of women’s sport, community pride, and inspiration for the next generation of players on the Fraser Coast.
The game, held at Ralph Stafford Park – Home of the Hervey Bay RSL Seagulls, saw the Wynnum Manly Seagulls edge out the Central Queensland Capras with a close final score of 20-16.
Gates opened at 1pm with kick-off at 3pm.
Cr Faraj said the family-friendly event also featured food vendors, a bar open from 2:30pm, and fun activities for all ages.
“This match marks a major milestone for the region, offering local fans and aspiring athletes a chance to witness elite women’s rugby league live,” she said. “Hosting this premier match highlights our commitment to growing women’s sport and delivering exciting, high-calibre events for our community.”
The Gala Dinner offered guests the chance to dine alongside elite players and hear powerful stories of resilience, dedication, and success.
The evening featured guest speakers who shared exciting insights into the future of women’s rugby league, all while guests enjoyed a delicious buffet dinner.
