THE HEARTBEAT of Fraser Coast Hospice doesn’t come from machines or monitors—it comes from the compassionate individuals who walk through its doors every day, offering their time, skills and open hearts.
“What would Fraser Coast Hospice be without our volunteers?” It’s a question often pondered. The answer? “We simply couldn’t be who we are without them.”
With a remarkable 256 volunteer hours recorded in April alone, and 36 active volunteers currently supporting the hospice, their impact reaches far beyond the walls of the six-bed facility.
From warmly welcoming visitors at reception to meticulously maintaining gardens, assisting with admin, fundraising, and community outreach, our volunteers are everywhere—quietly making a profound difference.
Each task, no matter how small, carries immense value.
“You’ll find them at our reception desk, creating that crucial first impression that says ‘you’re in good hands now,’” the team shares.
That friendly welcome can make all the difference to families stepping into the hospice for the first time—often during life’s most difficult chapters.
The beauty of this volunteer force lies in its diversity.
Former nurses and teachers, tradespeople, accountants, retirees, and young adults all unite around a single purpose: to ease the journey for someone else.
“Many tell us they arrive intending to give but depart having received far more—meaningful connections, renewed perspective, and the privilege of supporting families through life’s most challenging journey.”
Their presence also extends into the wider community—at events, in shopping centres, and through fundraising initiatives such as raffles and charity stalls.
“Our volunteers touch every aspect of hospice life with their generosity of spirit.”
One shining example of community spirit came from Star of the Sea Catholic Primary School, whose students and staff selected Fraser Coast Hospice as their local charity for Project Compassion.
The school raised over $3,000, with $1,250 donated directly to the hospice.
Their efforts—from Crazy Hair Days to Fish and Chip Fridays—were powered by pure enthusiasm and kindness.
“Seeing children so passionate about helping others warms our hearts immensely…Your kindness means the world to us.”
Fraser Coast Hospice offers fee-free care to those facing end-of-life, made possible entirely through community support.
Every raffle ticket, volunteer hour, and dollar donated helps keep this vital service available to families when they need it most.
