Police station set for $28 million upgrade

THE MILES Government has released plans detailing the scope and scale of a major new police facility at Hervey Bay.

The Queensland Police Service advises the original scope of the project has been expanded to include additional watchhouse cells, increases to the general dayroom and investigations areas, additional interview rooms, facility amenities and car parking upgrades.

The $28 million project will provide Hervey Bay police with-state-of-the-art infrastructure and facilities to support their work into the future.

The project is part of a record police infrastructure pipeline that supports the biggest investment in police personnel in more than 30 years.

That investment in the Queensland Community Safety Plan will deliver more than 2,000 extra police personnel.

The Queensland Police Service states that investment will deliver a minimum of 150 extra police officers to the police region that encompasses Hervey Bay.

Given the Queensland Police Service is currently undertaking the biggest police recruitment drive in the state’s history, to deliver on the government’s investment, it’s clear that police will require enhanced infrastructure and facilities to support the extra personnel.

Premier Steven Miles said, “Every community across the state deserves to not only be safe, but feel safe.

“That’s why the Queensland Community Safety Plan includes investment in frontline services and facilities, as well as funding for critical services to help with intervention and prevention.

“I know that Hervey Bay police officers go above and beyond every day to support their local community and it is only right that we give Hervey Bay police the best possible facilities.”

Hervey Bay MP Adrian Tantari said, “Since being elected in late 2020 to represent my local community I have advocated strongly for this project, and this investment by the Miles Government recognises that Hervey Bay is a fast-growing regional city.

“This is about community safety, building infrastructure, ensuring better services and securing good jobs for our future.’’

Police Minister Mark Ryan said, “Hervey Bay is a growing community and the investment from the government in establishing a new state-of-the-art police facility will ensure police are working in a fit-for-purpose facility that can cater for future growth.”
