OUTSTANDING volunteers, cultural contributors, sporting mentors and community groups can now be put forward for the 2026 Fraser Coast Australia Day Awards, with nominations now open.

The awards recognise individuals and groups making a positive impact in the Fraser Coast region – from passionate volunteers and inspiring young leaders to not-for-profit organisations that go above and beyond.

These awards highlight the incredible contributions that often go unnoticed, giving the wider community a chance to celebrate the achievements of their peers and neighbours.

Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour encouraged residents to get involved and nominate a local legend.

“The Fraser Coast Australia Day Awards are all about recognising the everyday champions in our community - those who lead with compassion, inspire change, and make a real difference in the lives of others,” he said.

“In 2025, we received nominations across five categories, celebrating powerful values like reconciliation, leadership, creativity, inspiration and compassion.

“This year, we’re calling on the community to help uncover even more local legends.”

Award categories for 2026 include:

•    Citizen of the Year – For individuals aged 26 years and over
•    Young Citizen of the Year – For individuals under 26 years
•    Sport & Wellbeing Award – For Individuals or groups of any age making significant contributions to sport, recreation, health or wellbeing
•    Arts & Culture Award – Recognising outstanding artistic or cultural achievements by individuals of any age
•    Community Group or Organisation of the Year – For not-for-profit local groups making a real difference in the region

“Let’s take the time to recognise the people and groups who help make the Fraser Coast such a special place to live,” said Cr Seymour.

The awards are also an opportunity for residents to reflect on the spirit of community, celebrate local achievements, and inspire others to get involved in projects and initiatives that benefit everyone.

Nominations close on 5 December 2025.

Nominees will be recognised at a special ceremony in January, with award winners presented on Australia Day (26 January 2026) at the Brolga Theatre.
