Lisa Curry gives training session to Bay Crocs

TRIPLE Olympian and wellness entrepreneur Lisa Curry has reached out to a Hervey Bay men’s social group and provided swimming training to help their skills.

She also has used this time to enforce the importance of water safety following the recent drownings in Queensland.

Lisa Curry connected with a local mental awareness group Fraser Coast Mates in 2022 as a guest speaker and has provided continued support with their messaging and promotions since this time.

Along with her husband entertainer Mark Andrew Tabone, who has also supported the group with a number of fundraising nights performances with his nationally recognised Elvis tribute show, their passion for wellness and community lead initiatives his exemplary.

Lisa was made aware of the men’s swimming group Hervey Bay Crocs and wanted to connect and support them for a swimming session.

“Fraser Coast Mates really resonates with me and I see the need to speak more openly about how we feel, particularly with men”.

The Hervey Bay Crocs swim every Saturday at the Hervey Bay Aquatics Centre and allows for all swimming levels.

The session also timed with a passionate social media plea from Lisa Curry about the importance of swimming skills.

“If you can’t swim, do not go in the water”, says Lisa.

“I couldn’t sleep the other night after hearing the devastating news of the father and grandfather who drowned trying to save their little girl. It’s a horrendous tragedy and I really feel the need to voice my opinion on this.”

“If you can’t swim and you’re in deep water with your clothes on, in a stressful situation, it is never going to end well. One gulp of water and it’s all over.”

“There are adult swim classes at every pool around Australia so there really are no excuses.”

Hervey Bay Crocs is a men’s social group that has been meeting every Saturday for 14 years. Crocs member Peter Grumley says it’s about the mateship.

“We simply share the time for a bit of physical activity and a chin wag. We have had some wonderful stories over the years of how positive the group has been for their physical and mental health.”

The group welcome all men to participate with the group. You can find them on Facebook - www.facebook.com/herveybay.crocs
