FRASER Coast families were invited to help shape the future of Oleander Park in Kawungan, with an upgrade of the popular neighbourhood park now in the planning stage.
This project will ensure the park continues to meet the needs of local residents, offering safe, enjoyable spaces for children and families alike.
Deputy Mayor Sara Faraj said a concept design is now available for community feedback, with exciting new features aimed at creating a more active, inclusive, and family-friendly space.
“The proposed upgrade includes new playground equipment, a shaded sand play area, a concrete bike track, a multi-use half court, and improved embellishments,” Cr Faraj said.
“Oleander Park is a local recreation park, and this upgrade is all about creating a fun, inclusive space that reflects the needs of the neighbourhood.
“We’re encouraging people who live nearby, especially parents and carers, to have their say on the design so we can deliver a park that truly suits the local community.
Cr Faraj said the upgrade supports the Fraser Coast Park Strategy 2041, which guides how Council delivers the right parks in the right places across the region.
“Oleander Park is a great example of how we’re investing in our neighbourhood parks to encourage kids to get active, be creative and connect with their community.”
Additional improvements proposed include:
- New picnic shelters, tables and seating
- More shade trees and landscaping
- A water bubbler and bike rack with fun road-style markings, weaving poles, a pretend fuel station and ticket booth
- New bins
- A carpark catering for all abilities
- New pathways to shelters to improve accessibility
- A multi-use halfcourt with hopscotch and handball line marking
Cr Faraj said improved parks mean more opportunities for kids to stay active, parents to relax, and neighbours to connect in a safe and fun environment.
These upgrades will also encourage more community gatherings, helping residents to build stronger connections while enjoying the natural surroundings.
The community was invited to provide feedback on the project, and submissions are now officially closed.
