Beach volleyball courts coming to Pialba foreshore

FRASER Coast residents and visitors will soon have the opportunity to enjoy beach volleyball at the Pialba foreshore, as the local Council has approved plans to set up three temporary courts near the All Abilities Playground car park.

This exciting new addition will be accessible to the public for casual games and social play, providing a recreational space for locals and visitors to come together and stay active.

Additionally, local volleyball groups will be able to use the courts for training and competitive events.

Fraser Coast Regional Councillor Lachlan Cosgrove explained that this initiative supports healthy, active lifestyles while contributing to the creation of more vibrant community spaces.

“Beach volleyball is a fun, low-cost sport that anyone can enjoy, no matter your age or skill level,” he said.

“This is an exciting way to bring more life to our foreshore and give locals and visitors another reason to get outside and stay active.”

Over the years, local volleyball groups have used various locations across Hervey Bay, but none have provided a permanent home for the sport.

While a permanent site is in the works as part of the future development of the Fraser Coast Sports and Recreation Precinct, the temporary courts will help address the growing demand for volleyball facilities in the meantime.

This initiative will offer volleyball enthusiasts a dedicated space to enjoy their sport and foster a sense of community.

Cr Denis Chapman remarked that the Council would prepare the site by levelling the ground, adding sand, and putting up signage.

“This is a smart and affordable way to support a sport that’s really growing in popularity,” he said.

“The space is sometimes used to store sand for beach protection, so the courts may need to close briefly during those times.

But for most of the year, they’ll be available for everyone to enjoy.”

The Council will consult further with local volleyball groups to formalise the use of the space, with work on the courts expected to commence in the coming months.
