LAUNCHED in June 2023, Girls Can Ball is a program created by Wide Bay Basketball, an initiative of The Alley Oop Project Pty Ltd is a locally family owned, independent and not-for-profit organisation.
The program has been solely created to focus on the growth of girls’ youth basketball.
In 2024, they are continuing and extending their program to girls (U12yrs & 13yrs to 16yrs) and adult women. Their aim is to develop basketball skills, promote positive core values and enhance self-esteem, health and well-being, and mental health through the program.
Ashik Naidoo, Director and Co-Founder said, “Our coaches will teach players of all positions, levels and abilities to play smart basketball, be great teammates, and to become leaders on and off the court.”
“The ‘Girls Can Ball’ Program was created to empower and encourage girls to participate in organised basketball.”
“We found a gap for adult women too and have since developed a fun and social training program where adult women can learn about the sport of basketball, develop new friendships, and improve their health and well-being, as well as their mental health.”
“Due to the lack of an all-girls and adult women basketball coaching and training program in our local area, it is hard for girls and adult women in which they can experience an atmosphere where they can play, compete, and participate in a league or competition amongst themselves.”
“Girls and adult women can join our affiliated Crocs Basketball Club Girls Can Ball Teams and compete and participate in the local 5 on 5 competition post program.”
“We endeavour to continue to build a great culture for girls’ youth and adult women basketball in our community.”
“We created this program because we have a vision of giving all females in our community the proper platform they deserve in a sport that they can grow to love.”
“Our goal is to empower and inspire females to grow physically and mentally as we enlighten them to realise their full potential both on and off the court.”
