NBN upgrade milestone reached in Wide Bay

MORE than 53,000 homes and businesses in the Wide Bay region can now connect to full fibre under a national nbn upgrade program.

What this means is that anybody who may have had issues to do with slower speeds during peak periods, Unreliability with dropouts and unable to order a speed plan above 50Mbps.

Will likely no longer have these issues (or have them at least significantly reduced) if they upgrade to fibre.

We know that households are using more data than ever.

We have seen a tenfold increase in average household data consumption on the nbn network over the past decade, going from 40 GB per month in 2014 to over 400 GB per month in 2024.

These Fibre upgrades are just one way we are bringing better broadband to regional communities.

Utilising the latest technology, we are enhancing the reach and the speed of the fixed wireless through a $750 million investment.

In June (2023) we delivered big improvements for satellite customers with a new nbn satellite plan, which provides access to uncapped data usage for all internet activities and for the first time our 25/5Mbps wholesale plan can offer burst download speeds of up to 100Mbps.

Nbn Head of Customer Strategy and Innovation, Dr Robert Joyce, said the upgrades deliver a better, and more reliable internet experience for homes and businesses.

“The average household now has 22 connected devices and that’s growing year on year, we encourage customers to check with their internet provider to see if their plan has enough speed and data inclusions”, he said.

Local Hervey Bay resident, Terry Lynch said, “Since upgrading to nbn fibre we haven’t had any issues at all. I encourage anybody that now has the option to upgrade to do it sooner rather than later.

The process was quick and simple and the benefits are very noticeable.”
