Men’s Shed builds a gigantic guitar
BURRUM District Men’s Shed has recently taken on an extraordinary project: crafting a guitar measuring an incredible three metres in length.
The request caught the attention of the shed’s members, who quickly came together to bring the ambitious idea to life.
The project required a combination of skills and teamwork, and several members contributed their expertise to make the giant guitar a reality.
One of the standout contributors was Richard, a relatively new member of the shed.
While he has never played a guitar, the young-at-heart 87-year-old proved to have remarkable talent when it comes to working with timber.
Richard’s contribution was essential in shaping the body of the massive instrument.
Once the wooden structure was complete, it was passed to David, whose skills in sign writing are now being used to add the finishing touches with paint.
The visual detailing is a key part of the guitar’s design, ensuring that it will be as striking in appearance as it is in size.
Special mention is also due to Ron Bochow, who applied his expert wood-turning abilities to craft the machine heads and the pickup control knob, adding both functionality and craftsmanship to the project.
The guitar is now in the final stages of completion and will soon be handed over to its new owners.
Once finished, the oversized instrument will travel to Bowen, where it is set to be displayed in a local music store.
The project has drawn attention not only for its size but also for the impressive level of skill and dedication shown by the shed’s members throughout the process.
Councillor Michelle Byrne has also visited the shed to see the project firsthand, highlighting the community interest in the men’s shed’s work.
The guitar is a testament to the creativity, craftsmanship, and collaborative spirit of the Burrum District Men’s Shed, and it is expected to be a striking attraction in its new home.
