Massive 76% want Torquay Caravan Park to stay!
Fraser Coast Regional Council has received 4385 completed surveys about the future use of the Torquay Caravan Park site – the largest response to a Council community engagement process.
Fraser Coast Regional Council has received 4385 completed surveys about the future use of the Torquay Caravan Park site – the largest response to a Council community engagement process.
Mayor George Seymour said the strong response reflects how much the community values this part of the coastline.
“Thank you to everyone who took the time to share their views,” he said.
“The Torquay foreshore holds special meaning for many people, and this has clearly resonated across the community. The feedback received will now help guide Council’s decision.”
The consultation asked the community to consider three options:
- Upgrading the existing caravan park
- Creating a new open space
- Developing a larger park and playground with recreation areas and event facilities.
Of those who responded, 76 per cent indicated a preference for upgrading the caravan park as providing the greatest benefit to the community, 9 per cent preferred the open space parkland option, and 15 per cent supported the premium playground concept.
Responses showed differences across age groups:
- Ages 0 – 34: A higher proportion preferred the parkland options (62 per cent).
- Ages 35 and over: A higher proportion preferred upgrading the existing caravan park (80 per cent)
Council officers will now prepare a detailed engagement report and a report to Council. Councillors are expected to consider the matter at the December Council meeting.
