DES and Rita have been shining a Light on blood cancers and have been supporting Light The Night in Hervey Bay for the past 13 years. Previous events have seen over 300 attendees.
In 2010, Rita was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma and will be carrying a white lantern at Light The Night.
Light The Night is an important stepping stone in Rita's journey with Multiple Myeloma and other Hervey Bay Leukaemia Group members.
The support group are keen to show support, raise funds and continue to spread awareness of blood cancers.
Light The Night is a special evening that brings together patients, carers, family, friends and the wider community to reflect on Leukaemia, Myeloma, Lymphoma & blood-related disorders' impact on so many lives.
Light the Night begins at 6pm on the Seafront Oval with speeches followed by local piper Duncan Birt leading off the parade with Amazing Grace.
The main event of the evening is a peaceful stroll around Seafront Oval with participants and their brightly glowing lanterns.
Lanterns will be available on the night for purchase but may be limited. Each colour lantern has a symbolic meaning.
White lanterns are carried for blood cancer patients and survivors; gold lanterns are for those remembering a loved one lost and the blue lanterns symbolise your awareness and support for carers and those affected by blood cancer.
You can expect great entertainment, inspiring moments, a coffee van, ice cream and food from the Hervey Bay Lions Club. Plus, there's a chance to win one of our three prizes in the raffle.
Please come join us for a fun-filled evening to show support, share hope and raise vital funds.
