PARENTS and carers in Hervey Bay are invited to attend a free evening workshop designed to help them guide their teenagers through the process of learning to drive safely.
Hosted by Road Safety Education, the “Drive Coach” workshop will take place on Wednesday, July 23, from 6:30 to 7:30pm at the Urangan Community Wellness Centre – The Tree House, located at 62-105 Elizabeth Street, Training Room 2, Urangan.
The session is tailored for anyone currently teaching or preparing to teach a young person to drive.
The program aims to empower parents and carers with essential tools and knowledge to better support their teen drivers during this critical learning phase.
Topics covered in the workshop include understanding the teenage brain and the challenges it poses when learning to drive, identifying risk factors for young drivers, and learning effective coaching techniques for learner drivers.
Attendees will also receive guidance on supporting the transition from learner to solo driver and how to collaborate effectively with professional driving instructors.
Drive Coach is built on evidence that parents and carers play a vital role in influencing how safely their teens drive.
However, many are not equipped with the latest information or strategies.
This workshop addresses that gap, offering practical advice and the latest research in road safety.
Facilitators will also share strategies and conversation techniques used in the Ryda youth program, which is currently delivered in local high schools.
Ryda has helped thousands of students build knowledge and attitudes that support responsible road use.
Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions, participate in discussions, and receive personalised advice from experts with years of experience in the field.
The workshop is part of a broader initiative supported by the Queensland Government’s Community Road Safety Grants Program and Rotary, aiming to reduce risks for young drivers and enhance safety on local roads.
With limited spaces available, interested participants are encouraged not to miss this unique opportunity to gain valuable insights, increase their confidence, and improve their impact on their teen’s learning-to-drive journey.
