Fraser Coast Gift Card goes digital for Christmas

WITH Christmas close, Fraser Coast residents are being encouraged to support local businesses by choosing the new Fraser Coast Digital Gift Card - a simple, thoughtful and 100% local gift option now easier than ever to buy and use.

Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour said the move to digital gift cards reflects how people shop today, with digital wallets like Apple Pay and Google Pay becoming increasingly popular.

“The Fraser Coast Gift Card is now digital, which means buying local has never been more convenient,” Cr Seymour said.

“You can purchase a card online in seconds, send it instantly via SMS, and the recipient can add it straight to their digital wallet, ready to tap and spend at participating Fraser Coast stores.

“The digital upgrade also allows more local businesses, including those using Square and various EFTPOS systems to join the program, expanding a Buy Local network that already includes close to 200 participating businesses across the region.

“Buying local is one of the most powerful ways to strengthen our economy. Every dollar spent here stays here, supporting jobs, families and small businesses.”

Allison Thorp from World Treasure Designs in Urangan said the business has proudly taken part in the Buy Local Gift Card program since it started in 2020.

“We create custom-made jewellery, and the gift cards have given locals a great way to put a deposit on a personalised piece.”

“Going digital makes it even easier for people to support local makers and retailers,” Alison said.

“It’s a simple idea that makes a real difference to small businesses like ours.”

Residents can still pick up physical gift cards from participating Load Up Stores, including the Maryborough and Hervey Bay Visitor Information Centres.
