Fraser Coast film night celebrates talent

THE FRASER Coast’s creative community is set to come together for an inspiring evening of film, conversation, and connection at the upcoming Screen Fraser Coast Film Industry Networking Event, held on Thursday 11 December from 6:00pm to 8:00pm in the Cinema Foyer at The Boat Club, Hervey Bay.

This event will shine a spotlight on Breannah Mitchell, a rising local filmmaker and double award-winner at the 2025 Fraser Shorts Film Festival.

Attendees will be treated to a special screening of her acclaimed short film, Corals on Your Doorstep, followed by a Q&A and networking session.

Breannah’s film captures the beauty and fragility of the Fraser Coast’s marine environment and has been celebrated for its heartfelt storytelling and breathtaking cinematography.

“Corals on Your Doorstep was inspired by the incredible natural beauty, not a lot people know that exist on our doorstep—our beautiful inshore coral reefs that are the only coral reef close to shore in an urban city centre in Australia,” said Breannah Mitchell.

“I wanted to create something that reminds people how special our region is, and how much creativity and potential exists in regional filmmakers. Events like this are vital; they bring our community together and open doors for collaboration and learning.”

“We’re seeing incredible momentum across the region,” said Sam Gould, Co-Chair of Screen Fraser Coast.

“There’s real enthusiasm for storytelling, and this event is a perfect opportunity for people to get involved, whether they’re just starting out or already working in the industry.”

Amy Friesen, Co-Chair, added, “Our goal is to nurture the local film ecosystem by connecting people and creating pathways for creative projects to thrive. The talent is here; it just needs opportunities like this to shine.”
