Depth and inspiration at Gatakers Artspace

IMAGINATIVE three-dimensional artwork and uplifting pieces developed by local high school students celebrating our present selves and our aspirations showcasing at Gatakers Artspace in Maryborough.

Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour encouraged local residents and visitors to explore the two new free exhibitions. He said the exhibitions shone a light on our creative high school students and allowed emerging artists to display their artwork in a professional gallery space.

“Selfsameness is a collaborative art exhibition that brings together the creative talents from  Maryborough high schools including Maryborough and Aldridge SHS, Riverside Christian College, and St Mary’s Catholic College.

Students explored themes of consistency, identity, and staying true to oneself, resulting in a vibrant blend of diverse perspectives and shared experiences about who we are and who we aspire to become, said Cr Seymour.

Each school submited around 20 artworks, showcasing various styles encompassing 2D, 3D, and time-based art.

Cr Seymour said the second exhibition, Radiant Objects, features twelve established artists and nine emerging artists, displaying over 30 artworks using a range of traditional and non-traditional materials including wool felt, macrame, clay, shells and feathers.

“The appeal of 3D art lies in its ability to transcend traditional boundaries, offering viewers a tactile and immersive experience that brings artwork to life in three-dimensional space,” he said.

Cr Seymour said they were committed to providing ongoing support to local artists, who played a crucial role in fostering creativity and enriching cultural experiences in our region.

Both exhibitions run daily until 9th June 2024. Entry is free.

Gatakers Artspace is located at 311 Kent Street in Maryborough and is open 9:30am to 3:30pm Tuesdays to Fridays and 9:30am to 2pm weekends including public holidays.
