Access upgrades at Fraser Coast sports precinct

GETTING around the Fraser Coast Sports and Recreation Precinct will soon be easier and safer, with work starting on new internal access roads and footpaths.

Fraser Coast Regional Council Sport and Recreation spokesperson Cr John Weiland said the upgrades would make it simpler for players, spectators and maintenance crews to move around the growing precinct while protecting the fields and open spaces.

“The Fraser Coast Sports and Recreation Precinct in Nikenbah continues to evolve as a major hub for sport and recreation, providing locals with access to high-quality sporting fields and helping attract events that bring more visitors to our region, ” Cr Weiland said.

“This project will make it easier for everyone to get around the precinct, whether you’re walking to a game, supporting a local team or helping out behind the scenes.

“It’s another step forward in supporting local clubs, encouraging participation and helping the precinct reach its full potential.”

The $700,000 works are proudly funded by the Queensland Government’s Works for Queensland program through the ‘Road Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Construction Works’ project.

The works will include:

  • Replacing the existing gravel access road from the carpark area to the end of the first premium football field with a new asphalt surface;
  • Installing turf reinforcement matting from the end of the asphalt road to the maintenance shed near the basketball facility;
  • Building two new concrete footpath connections from the northern staircases of the football amenities building; and
  • Topdressing and re-turfing disturbed areas.

Work has started and is expected to be completed by March 2026, weather permitting.

“The precinct already attracts major events and visiting teams, and this work will make sure it continues to grow in a safe and sustainable way,” Cr Weiland said.
