A new era for Fraser Coast film industry
AS THE curtain rises on 2026, Screen Fraser Coast is taking a moment to reflect on a breakout twelve months for our region’s creative sector.
Last year marked our official launch as a new film industry body, and we hit the ground running with a clear mission: to connect filmmakers, talent, and industry professionals to foster growth and collaboration across the Fraser Coast.
2025 was defined by connection and upskilling.
We delivered four industry networking events, reducing the need for creatives to travel elsewhere.
We connected community and industry with screenings of Double or Nothing and Any Given Sunday.
These events featured insightful Q&A sessions, offering local audiences a unique look behind the scenes of professional production. A major focus of our inaugural year was preparing our local talent to be production ready.
We were thrilled to host acclaimed actor Stephen Hunter for acting workshops and a meet-and-greet, where he shared screen-tested techniques and industry insights.
We also prioritised diverse and inclusive storytelling through the Indigiverse writing workshop and a dedicated Butchulla Extras Acting workshop.
Our commitment to the next generation of storytellers was realised through the Yesterday Stories youth documentary filmmaking workshops and our participation in the Junior Rangers program.
The crown jewel of our 2025 calendar was undoubtedly the Fraser Shorts Film Festival.
Running across two weeks in October, the festival activated venues in both Hervey Bay and Maryborough, celebrating the unique voices of our region.
The festival culminated in a sold-out Awards Night that highlighted the incredible potential of our emerging and established talent.
We are carrying this momentum straight into 2026 with a robust schedule designed to further elevate our industry standards.
We have already locked in a slate of professional development opportunities, including a dedicated casting workshop, a new extras workshop, and a rigorous 2-day film intensive workshop.
These initiatives are designed to ensure our local talent pool remains competitive and skilled.
We are also excited to announce that we will bring the prestigious Flickerfest
to the region on 18 April at BigScreen Cinemas, offering our community access to world-class short films.
The Fraser Coast is building a reputation as a destination for creative innovation.
